Belgium

Small but multifaceted

With it's 30,528 km2 , Belgium is one of the smallest countries in Europe... But that doesn't mean that it's less important!
Its capital, Brussels, hosts some of the most important European and international organisations headquarters - such as NATO - and is actually the capital of Europe itself!
Another interesting fact about Belgium is that despite its small size, the country features no less than 3 official languages! Dutch and French are the most commonly spoken languages, with German being the official language in a small eastern corner of the country.
Thanks to its multiple facets, Belgium will charm you in many different ways. Its melting pot features a variety of architectural, artistic and gastronomical sites and makes it the perfect spot for cultural exchanges.

Included on UNESCO's World Heritage list for its historical center, Bruges will also delight every art lover as it was one of the main centers of the “Early Netherlandish painting”.

Bruges, West-Flander Province

Constructed in 1958 for the World's Fair in Brussels, the Atomium wasn't actually supposed to stay around after the fair.
Nevertheless, this surprising building became over the years a popular symbol of the Capital and of Belgium itself.
The spheres - which are open to public - offer an amazing panoramic view of the city.

Belgian chocolate is a gastronomical specialty in the country and it would be a shame not to taste any while being in Belgium.
Belgians' average chocolate consumption is around 8kg/per person a year, which makes it one of the highest rates in the world!
So when in Belgium, don't hesitate and have a look at one of those chocolate shops... You can't miss them; they are basically around every corner and each one seems more appealing that the previous one!
